****************************************************
-SPIKES STRIVE TO EVEN SERIES: The State College Spikes take on the Oneonta Tigers in the second game of a three-game series. Oneonta snapped the Spikes' two-game win streak with a 9-5 win last night, edging themselves to within a game of the .500 mark.
-LAST NIGHT: A three-run double with two outs in the seventh by Mike Gosse broke a 5-5 tie and sent Oneonta on to a 9-5 win. Quincy Latimore went 3-for-4 for the Spikes with a single, a double, and a triple. Andy Vasquez executed his second steal of home this year on a delayed double steal play, and drove in two runs as well. State College also took full advantage of four Oneonta errors, the most by any Spikes opponent this year.
-KELLY MAKES START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Ryan Kelly makes his third start and fourth overall appearance this year. Kelly has no decisions, but picked up a save in his only relief appearance of the year. On the year, Kelly has walked nine and struck out seven, but set a season high for strikeouts with four in his last start (vs. Williamsport, July 1st).
-SORENSON GETS BALL FOR TIGERS: Mark Sorenson will start for Oneonta tonight. The righty is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA in two starts for the Tigers. In 7.1 innings, Sorenson has given up 14 hits and nine runs (eight earned). Sorenson does sport a 7:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, but opponents have put the ball in play against him, with a .400 batting average. Sorenson, a draftee from Michigan State University, is just getting off the Disabled List.
-FIRST TIME, AND ONLY TIME: As with all of the Spikes' opponents out of the Pinckney Division, this will be the only scheduled series between Oneonta and State College in 2008. With last night's win, the Tigers now hold the edge in the all-time series, 4-3.
-WHITE ON ROLL AT TOP: Cole White has a six-game hit streak, longest on the Spikes, and has been thriving in the leadoff role the last three games, going 5-for-14 with a homer, two doubles, and a stolen base.
