Cutters fall in extras

The Williamsport Crosscutters ran out of steam in extra innings, as the Aberdeen Ironbirds put up four in the top of the twelfth to win it 9-5.

Making his first start for the Cutters, P Tyler Cloyd went four innings, yielding four runs (three earned), on six hits. Kory Noles would relieve Cloyd in the fifth and pitch the next two and 2/3 innings, surrendering a run on two hits. RHP Michael Shwimer in by far his best outing of the season followed Noles and dominated Aberdeen. Schwimer, a 2008 draft pick out of the University of Virginia, worked three 1/3 innings without allowing a hit and struck out eight Ironbirds. P Yen Feng Lin took the loss for Williamsport as he allowed four runs on five hits.

C Travis d'Arnaud continued to be the teams' hottest hitter as he went 2-5 and connected on his first home run of the year. OF Darin McDonald also went deep for the Cutters for his first homer.

Williamsport will try to go for the series win as they host Aberdeen Monday at 7:05pm. The game can be heard on ESPN 1050.
