Start of the OHL Season Delayed Again

December 23, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Barrie Colts News Release

Colts fans, it is with regret that we have to report that the OHL season will not be starting on February 4th as previously stated.

Training camps had been scheduled to begin in mid-January and players were set to report here in early January. Games were scheduled to commence on February 4th, 2021.

This decision follows Premier Ford's announcement of a province-wide shutdown in Ontario commencing on December 26th, 2020. The League will continue to consult and work closely with Governments and health authorities to determine potential start dates in the new year.

In a press release the OHL stated "The safety of all of our stakeholders and communities is our priority and we are committed to starting the 2020-21 season when it is safe to do so. We know that this is difficult news for many of our players, fans, billets, parents, staff and teams. However, the restrictions both provincially in Ontario as well as nationally with regards to cross-border travel have informed our decision".

We will be working closely with the Government and health officials on a new revised schedule and all will be putting in best efforts in order to develop a shortened season for 20/21.

We will be reaching out to all of our season ticket holders with further details.

We truly value the support of all our fans, sponsors, billet families, staff and everyone in our community. Please keep visiting our website for updates.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
