Stars Win Wire-To-Wire Victory Against Spurs

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, grabbed a wire-to-wire 101-93 victory against the Austin Spurs tonight at Vivint Arena, in their first game of a back-to-back set hosting the Spurs.

The game was led by Stars rookie Jeenathan Williams who shined with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Tyler Cook, who currently ranks fifth in the league in offensive rebounds, recorded a near double-double on 12 points and seven rebounds, along with five assists. Christian Vital tallied 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Eli Cain (12 points) and Stacy Davis (13 points) also notched double-digits for the Stars.

Austin was led by guard Brandon Randolph, who finished with 19 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Jordan Hall filled the box score with 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists. Kaleb Johnson added 12 points and eight rebounds.

The game began and the Stars jumped out on a 9-2 run before taking an 18-point lead in the first with 1:04 remaining. The first frame ended with the Stars leading 29-13. In the second, the Stars took their biggest lead of the night with 20 points with just 6:14 remaining.

Austin came out of the break to make a comeback attempt in the second half, outshooting the Stars 28-22 in the third and cutting their deficit to just one point with less than six minutes to play. Salt Lake City regained their power and sent the Spurs kicking as they claimed the final 101-93 victory.

The Stars will face Austin once more in their final home game of the regular season on Thursday, Mar. 23. The final game will take place at the Maverik Center which tips off at 7 p.m. MT, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
