Lincoln Stars News Release
Chris Forfar's goal near the crease at the 2:47 mark of overtime gave Lincoln a 4-3 win over the Omaha Lancers and forced game five in their Clark Cup semi-final series. The win on home ice by the Stars on Tuesday, April 29th evened the best-of-five series at two-games each, with game five set for Wednesday evening, April 30th at the Mid-America Center, starting at 7:05 PM.
It was the second time the Stars had avoided elimination in the series after the Lancers had taken a 2-0 lead.
Lancer forward Drew Conboy opened the scoring at 7:23 of the first period, converting a breakaway effort past Lincoln goaltender David Reekie for a 1-0 lead. Travis Novak and Patrick Wiercioch earned assists on the play.
Lincoln then tied the game at 1-1 on a shorthanded goal scored by Rick Carden at 9:47. Carden's shorthanded score was the first in the series and first of the playoffs for either team.
However, just 11 seconds later, at 9:58, Dakota Eveland gave the Lancers the lead back, converting an unassisted effort for a 2-1 Lancers lead.
Another Lincoln power play goal, scored by Jake Newton, tied the game again at 2-2 at 11:38 of the second frame. The Stars added another power play tally to open the third period, this one scored by Jimmy Hayes, at 43 seconds for a 3-2 Lincoln lead.
But, the Lancers then applied more pressure on the Stars' net, producing success with just under five minutes remaining in regulation time. Nico Sacchetti's shot from the left side found the back of the net for a 3-3 tie at 14:58, with Novak collecting his second assist of the game.
Forfar's game-winning goal came as he pounded in a loose puck at the Lancer crease past goaltender Drew Palmisano. It was Forfar's second goal of the playoffs and came at 2:47 of overtime.
The Lancers and Stars tied at 39 on the shot clock. Omaha was 2-for-8 on the power play, while Lincoln was 2-for-5. Reekie stopped 36 shots for the victory, and Palmisano made 35 saves in taking the loss.
