Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that the United States Hockey League (USHL) has awarded the city of Sioux Falls with the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 4th at 7:05 PM at the Sioux Falls Arena.

The All-Star Game will be played in conjunction with the Stampede's 10th Anniversary season and will be preceded by a banquet on Tuesday, February 3rd at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The game features the top prospects and best players the USHL has to offer. The majority of the players move on to play Division I college hockey and several move on to eventually play professional hockey. The game is also heavily scouted by the NHL and nearly every Division I school.

This marks the second time the Stampede have hosted the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game. The Herd hosted the event in 2002 when Team USHL defeated Team World 8-3 in front of a sold-out Sioux Falls Arena. "Mr. Hockey" himself, Gordie Howe was the keynote speaker at the banquet the night before and was on hand for the game.

"The first time the Stampede hosted the all-star game was when the bar was raised. That's when it went from being just a game to an event," said USHL president Gino

Gasparini. "The job that they did the first time around is when they put pressure on other teams that hosted the event to really take things to a new level. I have nothing but confidence in the fact that Jim (Loria) and his staff will raise that bar even higher the second time around."

The Stampede had seven players participate in the 2002 game, including Thomas Vanek who was named MVP of the game. The Stampede have taken home the MVP award five times in their first nine seasons.

Ticket information and details on the 2009 All-Star Game banquet will be forthcoming over the next few months. All-Star Game tickets will be included in all season ticket packages.
