Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- On the final Saturday game during the Mississippi Braves regular season, 6,084 fans filed through the gates for Fan Appreciation Night at Trustmark Park. However, the Huntsville Stars shutout the Mississippi Braves 2-0 to even the series at one game apiece. The series continues Sunday at 5:00 PM.

Mississippi (33-28, 71-60) managed just five hits and committed one error while Huntsville (27-35, 56-74) scored two runs on nine hits. With Jacksonville's loss to Montgomery, the M-Braves remain two games back in the standings. Mobile defeated the Smokies to move to a half game out of first place.

After a 24-minute rain delay to start the game, the M-Braves and Stars finally got underway. Huntsville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. Andy Moye led off with a double before Jason Rogers delivered a two-run homer to left field.

The M-Braves threatened a couple of times but could not get a run across. In the bottom of the second, the Braves had runners at second and third with one out. Omar Luna flied out to center and Robby Hefflinger was cut down at the plate to end that frame. In the sixth, Mississippi managed to get runners to first and third but a pop out to third ended that threat.

Moye (6-14) held the Braves to just four hits while fanning three batters in five innings pitched. Ian Thomas (7-8) went five innings for the M-Braves, giving up two earned runs on five hits, a homer and two walks. He struck out three batters. Kevin Shackleford (S, 5) came on to record the final three outs and notch the save.

M-Braves right-hander Aaron Northcraft (7-8, 3.54) toes the rubber in game three of this five-game series. He'll counter Stars righty Taylor Jungmann (9-9, 4.14). First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM Sunday. Gates open at 4:00 PM.
