
Stars Push Past Barons 4-3

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (18-11-2-1, 39 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (18-9-1-3, 40 points) 4-3 on Monday night in front of 6,611 fans at Cedar Park Center. Stars' left wing Francis Wathier and defenseman Maxime Fortunus each recorded multiple-point efforts in the win. Oklahoma City right wing Colin McDonald added his 15th goal of the season while defenseman Shawn Belle had a multi-point night with a goal and an assist. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (11-5-1) stopped 20 of 23 shots in the victory. Oklahoma City goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers (4-5-2) stopped 25 of 29 shots in the loss. The Stars travel to Houston to face the Aeros at 4:05 PM on Sunday night.
The Stars struck early in the first period when Aaron Gagnon notched his seventh goal of the season at 5:30 for a 1-0 lead. Forwards Cody Chupp and Francis Wathier both added assists. The scoring continued at 13:28 as Drouin-Deslauriers mishandled the puck and right wing Colton Sceviour slipped in a shorthanded goal giving the Stars a 2-0 advantage.
Texas extended their lead midway through the second period as Wathier notched a power-play goal at 9:29 tapping in a rebound. Right wing Greg Rallo and defenseman Maxime Fortunus set up the goal to give the Stars a 3-0 lead. Oklahoma City tallied their first goal of the night at 12:20 when right wing Colin McDonald scored on the power play. Defenseman Shawn Belle and center Brad Moran both supplied assists bringing the score to 3-1 at the end of the second.
Oklahoma City added another goal at 3:25 in the third period as left wing Greg Stewart slipped a shot past Bachman to cut the score 3-2. Ben Ondrus and Chris Vandevelde added assists. Texas responded at 9:06 when left wing Raymond Sawada deflected a point shot past Drouin-Deslauriers to regain their two goal lead at 4-2. Fortunus and center Travis Morin provided assists on the play. Oklahoma City made it a one-goal game once again at 9:24 with a power-play goal by Belle. The goal was set up by defenseman Jeff Petry and Moran bringing the final score to 4-3.
The Stars go on the road to face the Houston Aeros on Sunday, December 26th at 4:05 PM. Texas will also make stops in Oklahoma City, Abbotsford and San Antonio in their five-game road swing. The Stars return home to take on the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday, January 8th at 7:00 PM. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Texas Stars window decal.
