
Stars Power Ahead to 4-2 Win over Lancers

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (25-20-1-1) scored three-unanswered goals to finish the game with a 4-2 win over the Omaha Lancers (31-14-2-1) on Saturday night at the Ice Box.
At the end of a tight, clean first period, Stars forward Dominick Mersch opened the scoring with a shot from the left wall at 19:26 to take a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Lancers came back in the second period with goals from defenseman Nick Perbix at 2:28 followed by a shorthanded goal by forward Noah Cates at 11:36 to take a 2-1 lead. Late in the frame at 16:43, Stars defenseman Wyatt Aamodt softly slid a rebound past the netminder's pad from the left circle to tie the game, 2-2.
The Stars found the game-winner midway through the third period at 9:09 with a shot from forward Paul Cotter at the left circle to edge ahead, 3-2. On a late penalty kill, Stars forward Josiah Slavin connected on a shot from the Lincoln blue line into the open net at 19:02 to seal the 4-2 win.
Stars netminder Derek Schaedig (7-4-2) stopped 17 of 19 shots in the win, while Lancers goaltender Vincent Purpura (11-3-2) halted 36 of 39 shots in the loss. The Stars finish the weekend on Sunday, Mar. 11 at 6:05 p.m. from Denny Sanford Premier Center against the Sioux Falls Stampede.
