Stars Charge by Stampede, 5-2

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Lincoln Stars (26-20-1-1) remained perfect in the three-game weekend with a 5-2 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede (27-14-4-4) on Sunday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

On the first shift, Stars forward Casey Dornbach led forward Ashton Calder on a 2-on-1 rush and fed him an open shot at 0:43 to take a 1-0 lead. The Stars cashed in again a few minutes later move ahead, 2-0, at 5:29 thanks to forward Tristan Ashbrook following a turnover caused by forward Austin Magera.

The Stars spread the lead to 3-0 at 8:49 when forward Josiah Slavin punched in a rebound following another Magera turnover. The Stampede found their first answer of the night at 11:09 on a power play goal by forward Artem Ivanyuzhenkov, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Slavin slotted his second goal of the night at 3:08 of the third period on a shot from the high slot to spread the lead to 4-1. Stars forward Devlin McCabe added another tally at 13:12 with a shot from the left circle, spreading the lead to 5-1. Ivanyuzhenkov scored his second of the night at 17:30 on the power play, but the Stars prevailed in a 5-2 win.

Stars netminder Tomáš Vomá?ka (19-16-0) stopped 26 of 28 shots in the win, while Stampede goaltender Jaxson Stauber (8-6-3) halted 30 of 35 shots in the loss. The Stars return to the Ice Box on Thursday, Mar. 15 at 7:05 p.m. against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
