Stars Pick up Point in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Lincoln Stars (16-24-4), extended their point streak to six games, but were beat 2-1 in overtime by the Sioux City Musketeers (25-20-1) on Friday night at Tyson Events Center.
Lincoln, who came into the game 5-14-2 on the road, got off on the right foot early. Cole Craft buried a feed from Cross Hanas at 5:41, marking Craft's second straight period with a goal (following his power-play tally last night against Waterloo in the third period).
The 19-year-old hit the back of the net for the eighth time this year while Hanas and Yu Sato received assists.
Aidan McCarthy stood out in the first period, turning aside all nine shots from Sioux City, including an individual effort from Brendan Olson that forced McCarthy to throw out his right pad for a desperation save. Lincoln took a penalty with under a minute left in the first and did not get put on the man-advantage in the first set of 20 minutes.
Lincoln was outshot 9-8, but lead 1-0 heading into the second period.
Both teams were given a 5-on-3 opportunity in the middle period, but were unable to take advantage. No goals were scored in the second frame, despite nine shots on goal from the Musketeers and six shots from Lincoln.
After 40 minutes, the Stars charged forward with a one-goal cushion.
Sioux City put the push on in the third period, coming at the Stars with waves of attack. They were kept off the scoresheet at even strength, but tied the game 7:27 into the third period on the power play. Chase Bradley beat McCarthy along the short side, knotting the game up at one.
The Musketeers continued to pepper McCarthy with shots down the final stages of regulation, but the 19-year-old netminder made a plethora of stops to force overtime.
After 60 minutes, Lincoln was outshot 32-18.
Sioux City was put on the power play 26 seconds into overtime and cashed in on the 4-on-3 thanks to Bennett Schimek's strike 1:40 into the extra frame. The Stars are now 4-0-2 in their last six games.
Lincoln was 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. McCarthy was outstanding, turning aside 35 shots. Schmid made 17 saves in the win for the Musketeers.

Lincoln is out for revenge tomorrow night at the Ice Box with Sioux City in town for the second half of the home-and-home. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
