Stars Look to Move on in Game 2

Last Night

5-2, Stars win: Lincoln scored the game's first four goals to win Game 1 of the First Round of the 2023 Clark Cup Playoffs. Doug Grimes scored in the third period while also adding two assists to lead the Stars. Jack Larrigan and Cole Crusberg-Roseen scored in the first period while Tanner Ludtke and Patrick Raftery tallied in the third period.

Chance To Move On

With a win tonight the Stars will advance to the Second Round of the Clark Cup Playoffs. Lincoln last won its first-round series in 2018, defeating Sioux Falls in three games. Des Moines has not won a postseason series since 2019.

One Year Later

The Stars enter Game 2 of the 2023 Clark Cup Playoffs the same way that they did Game 2 of the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs... Up 1-0 in the series thanks to a 5-2 win. Lincoln the dropped the next two games to Waterloo.

Grimes Time

Doug Grimes scored a goal and added two assists last night to earn the game's first star. He recorded three three- point games in the regular season with the most recent one coming on April 14 against Fargo. Including the end of the regular season Grimes has points in each of his last six games (6+5).

Limiting Shots

The Stars held the Buccaneers to just 19 shots last night, marking the sixth time this season that a Lincoln opponent registered less than 20 shots in a game. This was also the second time that the Stars held the Buccaneers to less than 20 shots, with the other instance coming on Feb. 14, a 4-3 overtime loss in which Lincoln outshot Des Moines, 47-16.

Dominant First Period

Lincoln outshot Des Moines, 19-2, and led, 2-0, after the first period last night. It was the fewest shots that the Stars limited an opponent to in the opening frame and any period. Including the regular season Lincoln is outscoring Des Moines, 8-3, in the first period in their seven matchups.

An Apple For Whitehead

Stars goaltender Cameron Whitehead earned the Game 1 win by stopping 15-of-17 shots but also recorded a secondary assist on Ludtke's goal in the second period. It marked the first assist by a Stars' goalie since April 8, 2022 (Kaidan Mbereko). Whitehead had two assists last season and his last was Feb. 20, 2022, against Omaha.
