Stars Launch Online Auction to Benefit Racial Equity and Inclusion Fund

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars today launched an online auction of game-worn jerseys and signed memorabilia to benefit the Racial Equity and Inclusion Fund, which will provide critically needed financial assistance to nonprofit organizations supporting multicultural and underserved communities in Utah.
The Racial Equity and Inclusion Fund, which is a priority initiative of the Multicultural Subcommittee of Utah's COVID-19 Task Force and the Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs, aims to bolster the engagement of nonprofit organizations addressing systemic racial inequalities and providing emergency services in response to COVID-19.
The digital auction features a selection of signed game-worn Stars jerseys from the 2019-20 season, the most successful campaign in Salt Lake City team history, including Jazz assignment players Juwan Morgan, Miye Oni, Rayjon Tucker and Nigel Williams-Goss and two-way players Jarrell Brantley and Justin Wright-Foreman. Fans can also place bids on memorabilia ranging from signed Jazz and Stars team basketballs to bobbleheads signed by Jazz players Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles.
The auction is open now at www.32auctions.com/slcstarsauction and runs through Thursday, July 2 at 5 p.m. (MT). All proceeds will benefit the Racial Equity and Inclusion Fund.
"We understand the voice we have as a professional sports team affiliated with the Jazz and the Miller family, and we want to be a force for good in our community," said Jonathan Rinehart, president of the Salt Lake City Stars. "Our fans have an opportunity to bid on these one-of-a-kind collectibles from our most successful season in Utah, and we're proud that the funds we raise together will directly impact nonprofits fighting for social justice and providing relief in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic."
"Over the course of a season, we're measured by wins and losses, but each year, we always try to have a lasting impact in our community. I'm glad we can continue to use our platform for good, even though the season has concluded," said Stars Head Coach Martin Schiller. "Our players were true pros throughout the entire campaign and navigated some challenging circumstances with grace and class. I'm proud of everything we accomplished together, on and off the court."
The league announced yesterday that Schiller was named the 2019-20 NBA G League Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year. Bart Taylor, director of scouting for the Utah Jazz and vice president of basketball operations for the Stars, also earned 2019-20 NBA G League Basketball Executive of the Year honors.
The Stars concluded the 2019-20 campaign atop the Western Conference with a 30-12 (.714) record, the club's most wins since moving to Salt Lake City in 2016. The team was poised to appear in the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
In the community, the Stars maintained their doing good efforts in schools and in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. On March 2, the team held "Autism Awareness Night presented by Vivint Gives Back" featuring players donning custom blue puzzle piece themed jerseys and an exclusive Joe Ingles bobblehead available for purchase. Both items were components of a fundraising campaign that contributed $3,000 to support Vivint Gives Back in its mission to help children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
