Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 21, 2014) - The Huntsville Stars (16-15, 62-39) scored five runs on 10 hits Monday. Four of those runs and nine of the hits came with two outs in a 5-2 win over the Generals (12-18, 43-56) in Jackson Monday. The loss is the Generals third straight, but just the fifth in the last 11 games against the Stars. The loss spoiled a quality start from Matt Anderson.
Huntsville scored the first run of the game in the first inning. With one out, brand new Stars' outfielder Josh Fellhourer tripled and came in on a groundout from Nick Ramirez to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Jackson offense came alive quickly, as they took the lead from the Stars in bottom of the first. Leon Landry (1x4, R) and Ketel Marte (1x4, R) hit back-to-back singles and with one out Pat Kivlehan (1x4, RBI) doubled home Landry to tie the game. Marte scored as Julio Morban (0x4, RBI) followed with a groundout and it was 2-1 Generals.
Huntsville tied the game in the fifth on a bizarre play that scored short stop Yadiel Rivera. After beating out a two-out single, he advanced to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on an error by catcher Steve Baron (0x3, BB), and then scored on an error by Landry in center field after he could not stop the errant throw. That play tied the game at 2-2 and the Stars were just starting.
The Stars once again had two outs in the seventh, but found a way to string together three hits, the third of which was a two-run double by Nick Shaw to give his team their first lead, 4-2.
Huntsville added another two-out run in the eighth as back-to-back walks were followed by an RBI-base hit from Erik Komatsu that brought home Hainley Statia and the lead ballooned to 5-2.
Brock Hebert (2x3) was the only General to record a multi-hit game and it was his third straight two-hit night.
Drew Gagnon (7-4, 3.20) picked up the win going 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He surrendered to the bullpen from there as David Goforth came on to earn his Southern League leading 21st save of the season. Cam Hobson (5-8, 3.68) suffered the loss out of the Jackson bullpen as he gave up three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work. Starter Matt Anderson did not factor into the decision despite a quality start and allowing just two runs on four hits over six innings.
The Generals will look to get back on the winning track as they play the Stars in game two of the series Tuesday. Lefty Tyler Olson (4-5, 4.62) will be on the mound for Jackson as Huntsville will start Jacob Barnes (2-4, 4.55) on the mound. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
The Generals will travel back to Jackson to begin a five-game set against the Huntsville Stars on Monday. Jackson will have Matt Anderson (3-4, 5.16) make the start as Drew Gagnon (6-4, 3.21) will be on the bump for Huntsville. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
