Lincoln Stars News Release

The Lincoln Stars (0-3) fall to the Sioux City Musketeers (3-0) by a score of 3-2 in Sioux City.

Sioux City opened the game with a ton of offensive scoring chances. Lincoln found themselves down 1-0 after a goal scored by Giacomo Martino on a pass from Sam Court. The first period was the cleanest period of the game as no penalties were called on either team.

The second period we saw our first penalty of the game as Aidan Janz took a two minute holding penalty. Sioux City would not capitalize on the opportunity. Sioux City shortly after made it a 2-0 game as Ethan Gardula netted his first goal of the playoffs off of a feed from Hagen Burrows. Lincoln soon found the back of the net on a greasy goal in front by Adam Kleber. Lincoln would cut the lead to 2-1. Just less than one minute later Keaton Peters tallied his first goal of the postseason to make it a 2-2 game late in the second period. Lincoln rallied late in the 2nd period to control much of the latter half of the game.

The third period saw no scoring but a galore of penalties. Lincoln faced a five on three penalty kill with less than three minutes remaining and killed off the entire Sioux City power play. Lincoln controlled much of the waning minutes of the third period as the game would head to overtime and do so for the first time this series.

All the momentum going into the overtime period favored neither team. Opportunities from both the Stars and the Musketeers would arise early on in the overtime period. A turnover in the Stars defensive zone led to a Ty Hanson opportunity in which the puck found the back of the net as Hanson shot glove side on Yan Shostak and lead the Musketeers to a 3-2 victory over the Lincoln Stars.

The Lincoln Stars season comes to an end after making the Clark Cup Playoffs and defeating the Waterloo Blackhawks in round one and losing in three games to Sioux City in the Western Conference Semifinals. An incredible run for a young team with a ton of talent, we look forward to rocking the box again in the 2024-2025 season.
