KENT, WA. - The Tacoma Stars (10-10) and the Ontario Fury (9-11) went to penalty kicks on Friday to determine a winner and the visitors converted on two of three attempts to take a 5-4 victory back to California.
A close game throughout ended scoreless after one quarter but took just 20 seconds into the second frame to end the scoring drought. Victor Quiroz found a rebound for an unassisted goal and a 1-0 Fury lead. Mike Ramos brought the Stars even with 9:51 left in the half on an assist from Chase Hanson. Tacoma took a 2-1 halftime lead on Nick Perera's 28th goal of the season on a Lamar Neagle assist. For Neagle, it was his first career MASL point.
Anibal Echeverria put the Fury back level with 11:40 left in the third and Derek Johnson would return the one-goal lead for the Stars with 1:33 on the clock. In the fourth De Bray Hollimon and Jermaine Jones scored back to back Fury goals for a 4-3 lead with just 3:48 to play. The goal for Jones was his MASL first in his first game.
Jonathan Greenfield found Ramos for his second goal of the game with 1:00 remaining to send the match to overtime and after a scoreless 10 minutes it went to penalty kicks and it was all Ontario at that point.
Juan Carlos Gonzalez converted on the first attempt for the Fury followed by unsuccessful tries by Tacoma's Joey Gjertsen and Perera as well as Ontario's Maicon De Abreu. Echeverria had a chance to win it for the Fury and he did just that to give Ontario the game and the season series at three games to two.
