
Stars Fall to Clippers

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario 103-93 on the road this evening in their first action of 2019. The Stars will return home to begin a four-game homestand, the team's longest of the season, on Friday, Jan. 4.
Salt Lake City was paced by Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh, who tallied his second consecutive double-double (third of the season) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Tony Bradley, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Isaiah Cousins recorded 11 points and a game-high eight assists, leading the team in assists for the fifth time in the last six games. Isaac Haas and Shonn Miller led the Stars' reserves with eight points apiece.
All five Agua Caliente starters scored in double figures, led by LA Clippers two-way player Johnathan Motley, who finished with a game-high 28 points. LA Clippers two-way player Angel Delgado secured a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, and Jamel Artis scored 12 points. Manu Lecomte and Jerome Robinson each contributed 11 points, while Brandon Fields handed out a team-high six assists off the bench.
There were 11 lead changes in the first half, with the Clippers taking a two-point edge (55-53) into intermission. The teams were tied at 62-all with 9:14 remaining in the third quarter when the Clippers went on a 10-0 run to take the lead. Agua Caliente extended its advantage by as many as 18 points (88-70) in the third quarter and again in the fourth (96-78) en route to the 10-point victory.
The Stars committed fewer turnovers (12-16) and swiped more steals (9-6). The Clippers held the advantage in rebounds (53-44), assists (23-17) and three-pointers made (12-8).
The Stars will next return home to Utah to begin a four-game homestand - the team's longest of the season - on Friday, Jan. 4, for "Pirate Night" against the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami HEAT affiliate). Tickets, which start at $5, are available at slcstars.com.
