Ontario Clippers News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (10-9) opened 2019 on a strong note, defeating the Salt Lake City Stars (11-10), 103-93, on Tuesday afternoon.
Clippers two-way player Johnathan Motley led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field, while knocking down two of his five three point attempts. This was his first game back in action for Agua Caliente since being recalled by the LA Clippers last week.
The first half of the contest was neck and neck, with 8 ties, 11 lead changes, and the Clippers eventually taking a two-point advantage into halftime. However, the tone changed coming out of the break as the Clippers broke out on a 26-8 run to take an 18 point lead, their largest of the night. A transition layup by Motley with two minutes left in the third capped off the run, giving the Clippers an 88-70 advantage.
Angel Delgado finished with a double-double for Agua Caliente, recording 13 points and 19 rebounds. Jerome Robinson, recently assigned from the LA Clippers, was held to only 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting but made three of his five three point attempts.
Two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh led the way for Salt Lake City, recording a 21 point, 10 rebound double-double. Guard Isaiah Cousins flirted with a triple-double, posting a line of 11 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.
Agua Caliente is back in action tomorrow on the tail end of a back-to-back, as they host the Northern Arizona Suns in a 7 p.m. (PST) contest at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
