Omaha, Neb. - The Stars dropped their preseason opener 5-2 to the Omaha Lancers in the Ralston Arena Community Rink on Thursday night.

Stars forward Jack Badini opened the scoring at 1:53 of the first period, stashing away a rebound off defenseman Liam Schioler's shot.

Omaha evened the score on the power play about five minutes later after Stars forward Dominick Mersch was given a five-minute penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind.

The Lancers made it 2-1 at 15:04 of the first period when forward Brian McManus beat goaltender Peyton Jones with a wrist shot from the slot.

Jones would switch with goaltender Cayden Primeau at 9:18 of the second period.

Omaha stretched its lead to 3-1 lead at 9:52 of the second period, but Lincoln would close the gap to 3-2 less than one minute later when forward Grant Jozefek tapped in a low-to-high pass from forward Sam Kauppila.

Lancers forward Brian Williams made it 4-2 at 18:24 of the second period, giving Omaha a two-goal advantage heading into the second intermission.

Scoring slowed in the third period with the Stars' best opportunities denied by Lancers goalie Zach Driscoll, who came in replacement for Zacharias Skog midway through the second period.

Omaha made it 5-2 at 16:13 of the third period when Michael Montambault notched his second of the evening.

The Lancers carried the 5-2 lead to the final buzzer, defeating the Stars in their first preseason game.

Lincoln will take on the Tri-City Storm Friday, September 11 at 7:05 p.m. at the Ice Box.
