Stars Defeat Blue Coats in Showcase Finale

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Delaware Blue Coats 99-93 tonight, capping off the final game of the 2018 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase with a win. The Stars, who won their first game of 2018 Showcase play on Dec. 20, have swept the Showcase (2-0) for the first time in Stars/Idaho Stampede franchise history since 2010.

Salt Lake City (10-9) was led by Isaiah Cousins, who recorded his second 20-point game of the season with a team-high 21 points on 3-of-5 (.600) from three-point range. Utah Jazz two-way player Naz Mitrou-Long finished with 13 points on 3-of-5 (.600) shooting from three to go with five rebounds and four assists, while Tony Bradley, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, tallied 12 points (eight in the third quarter on a perfect 4-of-4 from the field) and six rebounds. Willie Reed recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in 23 minutes, and Grayson Allen, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, scored 11 points in 21 minutes of play. Trey Lewis finished with 11 points, tallying his third consecutive game leading the Stars' bench in scoring, and Jairus Lyles dished out a game-high-tying 10 assists (seven in the first half), his second double-digit assist performance of the season, to go with eight points. All five Stars starters scored in double figures for the first time since Nov. 23 at Santa Cruz.

Delaware (6-12) was paced by Cameron Oliver, who recorded his third-straight 20/10 game (fourth in five games) with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Farrell also recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high-tying 10 assists, while Norvel Pelle collected a game-high 13 rebounds and blocked a game-high four shots off the bench.

Delaware started the game with a 5-0 spurt and led by one point (12-11) four minutes into the contest, but the Stars outscored the Blue Coats 14-2 in the ensuing minutes to take an 11-point advantage (25-14). Salt Lake City extended its lead on a 10-0 run in the second frame, leading by as many as 20 points (50-30) in the period and taking a double-digit advantage into the locker room at halftime (56-45). Delaware outscored Salt Lake City 30-20 in the third quarter, cutting the Stars' lead to one point (76-75) to enter the final frame of play. The Blue Coats took a one-point edge (79-78), their first lead since the first quarter, with 10:28 remaining in the game, but the Stars went on a 6-0 run to lead by five (84-79) with 9:35 left and never relinquished their lead.

The Stars dished out a season-high 30 assists compared to Delaware's 24 helpers. Salt Lake City outshot the Blue Coats from the field (.482-.434) and three-point range (.379-.273) while committing fewer turnovers (16-21). Delaware held the edge in rebounds (50-37) and second chance points (15-5).

The Stars will return to Salt Lake City following the Christmas holiday to host the Austin Spurs (San Antonio Spurs affiliate) for the third meeting between the teams in the month of December on "Gaming Night presented by Port of Subs" on Friday, Dec. 28, at Bruin Arena. Jazz Gaming, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, will have a presence at the game, including Xbox and PS4 consoles for fans to showcase their skills.
