
Stars Clinch Playoff Berth In 6-2 Win

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (32-22-1-1) secured a spot in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs with a 6-2 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers (20-29-4-3) on Wednesday night at the Ice Box.
The Stars came out with an early jump thanks to a shot from forward Devlin McCabe at 2:08 to take a 1-0 lead. Buccaneers forward Nicholas Werbik leveled the score, 1-1, at 14:42 on a delayed penalty.
After an early second period goal by Buccaneers forward Mike Hardman at 2:21, the Stars opened up and scored four-unanswered through the rest of the period. At 5:08, Stars defenseman Cole Krygier cashed in on a 2-on-1 rush coming out of the penalty box to tie the game, 2-2. Stars forwards Tristan Ashbrook and Dominick Mersch each scored just 59 seconds apart at 10:26 and 11:25, respectively, and forward Josiah Slavin tacked on another goal at 17:39 to double the lead, 5-2.
The Stars added one more goal in the third period from forward Gustaf Westlund at 14:15 on the power play to secure the 6-2 win and a spot in the playoffs. Stars netminder Tomáš Vomá?ka (23-18-0) stopped 26 of 28 shots in the win, while Buccaneers goaltender Jake Kucharski (8-13-2) halted 26 of 32 shots in the loss.
The Stars head to Viaero Center on Friday, Apr. 6 at 7:35 p.m. to open a home-and-home set against the Tri-City Storm. Coverage is available on 93.7 The Ticket, HockeyTV and Lincoln Stars Radio.
