Lincoln Stars News Release
The Lincoln Stars scored twice in the first period but lost to the Waterloo Black Hawks, 6-2, on Saturday night at the Ice Box.
Waterloo (30-14-1) made its first trip of the season to the Ice Box and fell behind 2-0 13:28 into the game but scored the final six goals to defeat Lincoln (26-18-3).
Jared Mangan cashed in with a one-timer in between the circles off a feed from Klavs Veinbergs 1:52 into the game and Daniel Sambuco followed up cashing in on an opportunity in front of the net made possible by a centering feed on the left wing from Dashel Oliver to put Lincoln up 2-0.
Gavin O'Connell cut the deficit in half by scoring a three-on-three goal late in the first period but the Stars still led by one after 20 minutes. The Black Hawks tallied two goals 1:55 apart in the second period with Sam Rinzel and Garrett Schifsky finding the back of the net. Schifsky added another on a goal that originally was ruled no goal but was overturned upon review. Waterloo scored three more times in third, once with an empty net, to cap its stretch of six unanswered goals.
Mangan and Sambuco continued solid recent trends with their goals. Mangan's was his fifth in the last nine games, representing half of his 10. His goal gave the Stars six different players with double-digit goals. Sambuco's was his third in four games against Waterloo, his former team.
The Stars have a home-and-home set next weekend against the Omaha Lancers. It's the first time that Lincoln faces Omaha since Dec. 30. Friday's 7:05 p.m. game will be the first time that the Stars host the Lancers since Nov. 4. It's Pucks N Paws Night and fans can bring their dog to the game.
