Lincoln Stars News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - Lincoln Stars General Manager Nick Fabrizio confirmed updates to the Stars coaching staff today. George Lewis has joined Lincoln's staff as an Assistant Coach while Artt Brey has been named the team's Goaltending Coach. Assistant Coach Michael Sdao has been signed to an extension.
Lewis previously spent three years with the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League as Assistant Coach/Director of Player Personnel. A native of West Chester, PA, Lewis coached the Philly Little Flyers of the Eastern Hockey League for two seasons, serving one year as Assistant Coach and another as Head Coach. He also worked as a volunteer assistant coach with Penn State University (NCAA DI) from 2013-16.
"I'm grateful and excited to join the Lincoln Stars," Lewis said. "I look forward to working with the new staff in place to provide our players with every opportunity to succeed."
Brey most recently finished his professional hockey career as a goaltender with the SPHL Birmingham Bulls. The Orange County, CA minded the net for four years at Saint Lawrence University (NCAA DI) following a three-year stint in the USHL between the years of 2012-2015 with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Sioux Falls Stampede, winning a Clark Cup with each respective program. Brey is one of five goalies in the last 56 years to win two Clark Cup championships. Since retiring from hockey, he has pursued higher education, earning his graduate degree in Sport Performance Psychology from Cal Baptist University.
"I am very excited to be back in the USHL," Brey said. "It is an honor and privilege to join the Stars organization. I look forward to working closely with the coaching staff and players to build a winning culture."
Sdao will return for his second season behind the Stars bench, retaining his role as Assistant Coach. As a player, he suited up for the Stars as a defenseman during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, registering 19 points, 340 penalty minutes and a plus-12 rating in 104 games.
"It's good to be back," Sdao said. "We have a solid group of returners who will be expected to lead and build off of how we played down the stretch last year."
The Stars will begin their Main Camp tomorrow at John Breslow Ice Center to kick off a four-day stretch of games. Each day is free to attend and Stars merchandise will be available for purchase!
