Stanley Cup Coming to the Quad Cities

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that the Stanley Cup will be in the Quad Cities this Sunday. The most revered trophy in North American sports will appear at a charity benefit for Bettendorf Police Officer Rick Denger.

The benefit begins at noon on Sunday and raises money to defray medical expenses for Officer Denger. The event will be held at Overtime Sports Pub and Grub at 3700 Belmont Road in Bettendorf. The Stanley Cup will be on hand from 5:00-5:30 p.m.

Along with the Cup's appearance, the benefit will also feature appearances by the Mallards including Jason Deskins, Brad Essex, Jeff Doyle and Marty Standish. The Mallards will be at the benefit from 2:30-4:00 p.m. to sign autographs, take pictures and support the Denger family. A silent auction will be held with a grand prize of a 42-inch HDTV. All proceeds will be donated to help defray the medical costs of Officer Rick Denger.

The Stanley Cup appearance was organized by Cornfield and Pat Tuttle, the Plant Manager of Guardian Industries in Dewitt, Iowa. Guardian Industries Corporation is a leading manufacturer of float glass and fabricated glass products for the commercial and residential construction industries. Guardian Industries President and CEO, William Davidson, also owns the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

"It is nice when the stars line up and "special" things are made possible," said Tuttle. "I think it is special that Guardian is able to share the trophy with the Mallards as well as for a charity benefit of this kind."

The Mallards are in Missouri on Friday before returning home for Opening Night 2004 on Saturday vs. the Kansas City Outlaws. Valley Bank presents an Opening Night Appearance by the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders. Pre-game festivities began at 7:15 p.m. before an 8:00 p.m. face off. On Friday, the First Captial Financial Pre-Game Show begins at 6:35 p.m. with opening face-off set for 7:00 p.m. After the game, stay tuned for the Allstate Insurance Del Newton/ Christy Cox Post-Game Show. The game will be broadcast on WFXN AM 1230 and on-line at www.qcmallards.com.
