Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that Greg Barber has been assigned to the Mallards by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. He comes to the Quad Cities following a dynamic rookie season in the ECHL with the San Diego Gulls.
Barber finished second amongst ECHL rookies in scoring with 76 points (30 goals and 46 assists) in 71 games. Barber's 30 goals ranked second on the Gulls roster and helped lead the team to the best regular season record in the ECHL. Barber was held scoreless in two AHL appearances this season.
The 6-foot, 192-pound winger attended the University of Denver before beginning his pro career in San Diego. Barber played 145 collegiate games with the Pioneers recording 92 points on 42 goals and 50 assists. Before beginning his college career, Barber was drafted in the 7th round (207th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins.
"Greg was one of the best young players in the ECHL last year," said Cornfield. "His addition to the Mallards will certainly help our offense."
