
Stanley Cup Champs Assign Top Prospect to Adirondack

Glens Falls, NY â The Adirondack Frostbite, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), today signed rookie defenseman Henrik Bergfors, it was announced by Frostbite Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Marc Potvin. Bergfors was the 9th round (#289 overall) draft pick of the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2001 NHL entry draft. As per team policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
Bergfors, 22, will be attending Tampa Bay's training camp for the second straight season. Last year the 6'4'' 225-pound, Swedish defenseman did not see any ice time in North America due to injury.
"We're very excited that Henrik is playing in Adirondack so our scouts will have an opportunity to monitor his development," said Jay Feaster, General Manager of the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. "He's a top prospect and we are fortunate to have him skating with a quality organization.
Feaster also indicated that he was interested in expanding a working relationship with the Adirondack Frostbite.
"We're excited that Tampa Bay believes in what we're doing by assign us one of their top prospects," said Potvin. "Henrik is thrilled to be coming to North America and start his career in Adirondack."
Bergfors played in eight pro hockey games during the 2002-03 season in his hometown of Sodertalje and is the first rookie to sign with the Frostbite.
"Bergfors is a huge addition to the Frostbite roster. We feel he is one of the best rookie defenseman out there," said Frostbite owner Glenn Morelli. "He is a player that fans will be able to follow throughout his career as he achieves his goal of one day playing for the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning."
Bergfors becomes the fifth player to sign with the Frostbite for the 2004-05 season. He joins left wing Hugo Belanger, right wing Frank Littlejohn, center Sylvain Cloutier and defenseman Scott Drevitch.
Season Tickets for the 2004-05 season are on sale now at the Frostbite front office located at the Glen Street entrance of the Glens Falls Civic Center. Tickets may be purchased at the office from 9AM to 6PM Monday through Thursday and from 9AM to 5PM Friday or by calling 926-PUCK. Also, kids may vote now on the name of the new Frostbite mascot.
