Stamps Sign Alain Kashama
February 23, 2009 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of veteran non-import defensive end Alain Kashama.
The University of Michigan product was selected eighth overall by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2004 Canadian Football League College Draft. He spent two years in the National Football League and one in NFL Europa before joining the Alouettes in October of 2006.
Kashama led the Alouettes with eight sacks in 2007 and added 27 tackles. He was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last season before joining the Stamps today as a free agent. He has played 32 regular-season CFL games.
"I'm very excited about having him come in and compete," said Hufnagel. "He's an explosive, veteran, non-import defensive end who will help strengthen our defensive line.
"He led the Alouettes in sacks in 2007 when Chris Jones (Stamps defensive coordinator) was the defensive coordinator in Montreal. Not only does he add depth but he has proven to be a very productive starter in the CFL."
Kashama, 29, is six-foot-four, 270 pounds and a native of Montreal.
Alain's brother, Fernand, was selected by the Stamps in the second round of last year's CFL Draft. The defensive lineman recently completed his college career at Western Michigan and is expected at Stamps training camp.
