(Calgary) – Today Calgary Stampeders' Senior VP of Football Operations/Head Coach, Tom Higgins, announced the free agent signing of Defensive Back Rashard Anderson and local Defensive Lineman, Tim MacDonald.

As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"Rashard is a rare talent with a great combination of both size and speed," stated General Manager Jim Barker. "He has the physical skills to be a dominant defensive back in the CFL. McDonald is a local product that was very successful at St. Mary's. He joins former Cochrane High School team-mate Brendan Mahoney, whom we recently signed."

Has a perfect blend of size, strength, speed and field instincts and is an explosive hitter who is extremely strong ... in 1999 Rashard was an, All-American first-team selection and rated the best cornerback prospect for the 2000 NFL Draft by SportsPage.com...All-Southwestern Athletic Conference first-team pick...Lined up at right cornerback, recorded 47 tackles (31 solos) with three stops for a combined loss total of 27 yards... Deflected nine passes and intercepted three others...Forced a fumble and blocked a kick...Did not allow a touchdown all year...Shut out his opponent in six games and held his man to no more than two receptions in any of the other five contests ... recorded a pair of interceptions vs Howard which ended in touchdown drives ... also added a pass break-up and 5 tackles (4 solos) ... In 2004 MacDonald was named AUAA All-Star and was a participant in the East West All-Star game ... he played and started in eight games ... recorded 21 tackles (20 solo), 6.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, and one forced fumble ... in 2003 MacDonald played and started in all eight games recording 20 tackles (18 solo), three tackles for a loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery ... in 2002 he was named to AUS All-Star Team ... played in seven games recording 23 tackles (21 solo), two tackles for a loss and two sacks.

Noteworthy

Graduated from Cochrane High School with recently signed receiver Brendan Mahoney... in 2001 Macdonald played Jr. Football with the Calgary Colts.
