"With a four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend coming up, it becomes increasingly difficult to sure up the blood supply for the local area," states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. "Many people are busy with holiday activities and forget to take time to donate blood which puts a strain on the blood supply. People coming in to donate at a community blood drive like this one, just before a major holiday, is very important to help keep the local blood supply at adequate levels so we can respond to emergencies."
Donors must be at least 17 years old, 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an ID with you. An individual can donate blood safely every 56 days. Community Blood Bank is the sole supplier of blood to Avera McKennan Hospital, Avera Heart Hospital, the V.A. Medical Center, Sioux Falls Surgical Hospital, Sanford Children's and Sanford Health. Community Blood Banks is a nonprofit, cooperative of Sanford and Avera Health and the sole blood provider to Sanford Chamberlain Medical Center and 33 other local hospitals. Community Blood Bank is not associated with any other blood bank organizations.
