Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Fighting Saints saw their third player of the season commit to college on Wednesday night. James Sanchez committed to Arizona State University. Sanchez has been one of the most consistent players this season for the Dubuque Fighting Saints, registering 16 points on four goals and 12 assists in 15 games. Sanchez, who skates on a line with Willie Knierim and Matias Maccelli, leads the Fighting Saints in assists.
"James enjoyed his visit to ASU," head coach Oliver David said. "In talking to him about [the visit] it was apparent the coaching staff did an excellent job of presenting to James. He has been very methodical in his approach to committing and I'm positive he will make an immediate impact upon arrival in Tempe."
Sanchez has been a leader on and off the ice for the Saints this season, using his past college experience to lead. The Northbrook, Illinois native was named to the Saints leadership group after the first couple weeks of the season.
"I want to be a part of the great tradition at ASU," Sanchez said. "I want to win a Clark Cup here and a National Championship there, that's the plan. I see what they're doing there and it's an all in attitude moving in the right direction and I'm all in. I'd also like to thank coach David, there isn't a much better coach to learn from."
Arizona State is one of the up and coming teams in NCAA hockey. The Sun Devils secured their first win over a ranked program this season and are currently ranked #18 in the nation, the first time the program has been ranked nationally.
