Thanks to the Calgary Stampeders, the Calgary Urban Project Society Community Health Centre will receive $43,000 towards its work with the poor and homeless in Calgary this year. The money comes from a fundraising breakfast held last May at the Hyatt Regency that drew almost 600 people and a game sponsorship program.

"The Calgary Stampeders have come through for CUPS like the true champions they are", said Carlene Donnelly, Executive Director of CUPS Community Health Centre. "Every year they bring together members of the community to join us in the fight against homelessness and poverty. The Stamps really are good friends of the community and of CUPS - and we are grateful."

Since 1992 the Calgary Stampeder Football Club has helped CUPS raise almost $350,000 through an annual breakfast at the beginning of each football season and a game sponsorship program. Ten companies each sponsor one of the Stampeder homes games and contribute $50 for each point the Stamps score. The Stampeders themselves sponsored the last home game this year and contributed $1,450 to CUPS based on the 29 points they scored in their 29-11 victory over Toronto Argonauts Oct. 16. Another sponsor, ARC Energy Trust doubled its contribution to $100 for each point scored by the Stamps in their 22-21 victory over B.C. Sept. 24. The other game day sponsors included Gridiron Rathole Drilling Ltd., Hyatt Regency Calgary, BMO Bank of Montreal, Pentastar Transportation Ltd., Bowen Workforce Solutions, Apache Canada Ltd., Precisions Drilling Corporation and Hallmark Tubulars Ltd.
