Stampede Slip in Season Opener

LOS ANGELES, California, November 28 2012 - Durrell Summers scored a team-high 21 points for the Idaho Stampede in their 2012-13 season opener, but it wasn't enough as the Los Angeles D-Fenders won 112-98. Darius Johnson-Odom, on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers, led the D-Fenders (1-0) with 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field in 39 minutes.

Idaho (0-1) shot just 37.3 percent in the first half but trailed by just one point - in the second half, the shooting did not improve while their opponent increased the margin. The Stampede were outscored 56-43 in the second half as Orien Greene and Johnson-Odom each notched 14 points and Los Angeles fired 56.4 percent from the field.

Sean Evans finished with his first career double-double in his season-opener, notching 11 points and 14 rebounds. NBA call-up hopeful Justin Harper had 18 points and four rebounds and veteran Stampeder and former Boise State Bronco Coby Karl added 10 points and six assists. Justin Holiday, brother of NBA star Jrue Holiday, had 15 points and six rebounds in his first NBA D-League game. Jai Lucas added 10 off the bench for Idaho.

The Stampede play the Bakersfield Jam tomorrow at 8 p.m. (MST) as part of a four-game road trip to start the season. The team opens up the home slate on December 7 vs. Austin at 7 p.m. for a special night, Heroes at the Hardwood presented by Pioneer Federal Credit Union. The team will honor and celebrate active duty and veteran military personnel and their families.
