Stampede Signs Sam Clancy

BOISE, ID- November 15, 2004- The Idaho Stampede, the Treasure Valley's professional basketball team, announced today that they have signed forward Sam Clancy to a free-agent contract, pending league approval.

Idaho Stampede Head Coach, Joe Wolf, said of the signing, "Sam has the size and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor and will be a welcome addition to our team."

Clancy, a 6'7, 240 lb. forward has played professionally in the United States and overseas. Clancy was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2002 National Basketball Association's annual college draft. During the 2003-04 season, Clancy played in 28 games for the CBA's Yakima Sun Kings averaging 13.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg and 1.6 apg.

The 6'7 forward played collegiately for the University of Southern California. While at USC, Clancy became the school's all-time leading shot-blocker with 195, third all-time in points with 1,657, second all-time in rebounds with 839 and fifth all-time in steals with 134. Helping the Trojans to a 2001 NCAA Elite Eight appearance, being named 2001 and 2002 First Team All-Pac-10, and the 2002 Pac-10 Player of the Year also highlighted Clancy's collegiate career.

The Stampede begins their seventh season on the road November 19 and 20, against the Yakima Sun Kings and returns on Friday, November 26, for a three-game homestand to tip-off against the Great Lakes Storm at 7:10 p.m. for their home season opener.
