Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Lincoln, NE-Kieffer Bellows and Cooper Marody tallied second period goals while Art Brey stopped 22 of 23 shots in goal as the Herd earned their second straight win of the weekend, downing the Lincoln Stars 3-1 at the Ice Box Saturday night. The win improved the Stampede's record to 27-18-5 and extended their lead to seven points over Des Moines for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West. The Herd are now just six points back of Omaha for third place in the West and are now 9-3-0 in their last 12 games.

For the second straight game against the Herd it was the Stars who nabbed the first goal of the game, scoring at 8:32 courtesy of James LaDouce. Jack Badini sent a pass into the right circle for LaDouce who wristed a shot over the left glove of Stampede goaltender Art Brey to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Sioux Falls would respond just over four minutes later when Parker Tumoie tallied his 13th goal of the season to even the game 1-1. J.M. Piotrowski brought the puck down the right wing boards and cut towards the net before dropping a pass at the bottom of the circle for Tuomie who wristed a shot into the back of the net. Neither team would score for the rest of the period and skated into the locker room tied 1-1 with the Stampede outshooting the Stars 13-9.

The Stampede came out flying in the second and grabbed their first lead of the game just 1:34 when Kieffer Bellows tallied his team leading 28th goal of the season. Cooper Marody took the puck deep into the left wing corner and then cut in towards the net before backhanding a pass in the slot to Bellows who then backhanded a shot past Hackett to give the Herd a 2-1 lead. It stayed that way until the 14:43 mark when Marody tallied his 18th goal of the season on a great snipe from the right circle that tucked just under the crossbar and hit off the back bar inside the net to give the Stampede a 3-1 advantage. The Stampede would kill off a penalty a few minutes later and took the 3-1 lead into the locker room, outshooting the Stars 12-6 in the period.

The Stampede controlled much of the third period and never really allowed the Stars a chance to inch back closer to the game as Brey stopped all 8 shots in the period and 22 on the night as the Stampede earned a big 3-1 victory at the Ice Box. Sioux Falls outshot the Stars 31-23 on the night and went 0-for-2 on the power play while going 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Stampede will have the tough task of trying to make it three straight victories in as many days as they must turnaround and play the Waterloo Black Hawks Sunday at 3:05 PM. Fans can catch all the action live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM and online at kelo.com starting at 2:45 PM.
