After seeing a solid United States National Team Development Program Under-18 team on Friday night, the Thunder hope to rebound against Muskegon. The Thunder scored two power play goals in the game from affiliate Vladislav Dzhioshvili and Shane Bednard (Bowling Green State University) but a powerful surge in the second period by Team USA proved to be the difference in the game. Four goals were scored by the USNTDP and they held the Thunder to just one shot in the third.
Matt Mendelson (Penn State University) leads the charge with 34 points (13g, 21a) followed by Ryan Galt (University of Nebraska-Omaha) and Bednard with 29. Bednard tallied his 13th goal of the year, while Dzhioshvili scored his first USHL goal in his debut with the Thunder.
Muskegon, fresh off a 9-2 win over Chicago, has points in their last four games. 13 different players grabbed a point in Friday night's game with the Steel but stealing the show was leading scorer Griffen Molino (Western Michigan University) who put up four points (2g, 2a) in the game. His 54 points (14g, 40a) ranks fifth in the USHL scoring race. Goaltender Eric Schierhorn (University of Minnesota) is putting up a case for goaltender of the year with a league leading .926 SVPT and a 2.54 GAA. Schierhorn has 21 wins this season, the second most in the USHL.
