
Stampede Rally Past Lancers For 4-3 Shootout Win

Dominic Zombo and Matt Bailey both scored in the shootout as the Sioux Falls Stampede rallied past the Omaha Lancers 4-3 Sunday evening at the Sioux Falls Arena. Following the shootout defeat, the Lancers fell to 24-7-2 on the year but remain atop both the West Division and USHL standings with 50 points. The Lancers are now 2-1-1 this season against Sioux Falls.
Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker less than a minute in when Danny Mattson's left wing backhand shot slipped past Stampede netminder Clay Witt and inside the right post. Mike Chiasson earned the only assist on the even strength marker notched 40 seconds into the contest. Sioux Falls pushed back quickly though and evened the game just four minutes later when Matt Lindblad wrestled home home his 11th goal of the season. Michael Voran registered the only assist on the even strength marker tallied 4:50 into period one. The Lancers regained the lead just past the midway point of the period when Anthony Hamburg's dump in took a favorable bounce in the corner popping out atop the Sioux Falls goal crease where it was promptly stashed home by Colin Markison. Tom Craig grabbed the secondary assist on Markison's 4th goal of the year netted 10:45 into the period. The Stampede fought the game back to even again as Matt Farris punched home a right wing rebound on the power play just 2:25 later. Voran and Lindblad assisted on Farris' 9th tally of the year. Sioux Falls then grabbed its first lead of the contest late in the opening frame when Dominic Zombo won a goal line scramble before tapping in his 7th goal of the season. Josh Holmstrom and Matt Bailey assisted on the 5-on-5 marker giving the Stampede a 3-2 at the first intermission.
After a scoreless 2nd period, Omaha drew the game even at three apiece 7:04 into the final frame when Erik Haula blasted home Matt White's cross-ice feed for his 15th goal of the season. Seth Ambroz recorded the secondary assist on the Lancers' third even strength marker of the contest.
After a scoreless overtime, which featured seven combined shots on goal, Sioux Falls was able to pull away in the shootout as Zombo and Bailey both scored in the shootout propelling the Stampede to the 4-3 victory.
Witt earned the victory in net for the Stampede turning aside 22 of Omaha's 25 total shots in the game. Meanwhile, Jeff Teglia suffered the shootout loss in net for the Lancers despite 41 saves on 44 Stampede shots on goal.
The Lancers are back in action next Saturday evening as they return to the Omaha Civic Auditorium to take on the Lincoln Stars in White-Out Night presented by First National Bank.
