BOISE, Idaho, January 28, 2009 - Roberto Bergersen provided a spark off the bench by scoring 18 points to help the Idaho Stampede defeat the Erie BayHawks 79-76 in Boise on Wednesday night.
In a defensive battle, the BayHawks led the entire game until Bergersen drained a three-pointer with 1:00 remaining in the third quarter. Idaho managed to outscore the BayHawks 24-15 in the quarter and the two teams went into the final quarter knotted up at 61.
Bergersen made another trey to start the fourth quarter, giving the Stampede their first lead of the game. The teams exchanged baskets throughout the quarter, but the BayHawks were only able to score one basket in the final three minutes of the game, allowing the Stampede to hang on for the win.
"You could definitely tell the two best teams in defensive field goal percenatage were on the court tonight. So, you knew it was going to be a low-scoring game," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "I'm just glad we made the last shot."
Stampede center Dwayne Jones finished the game with his second double-double in three games, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Brent Petway scored all 13 of his points in the first quarter.
Ivan Harris and Oliver Lafayette each scored 18 points for the BayHawks, while Erik Daniels and Maureece Rice contributed 14 points apiece.
