
Stampede defeat Arsenal 91-90 in thriller

BOISE, Idaho, March 11, 2009 - Lance Allred recorded a double-double to help the Idaho Stampede defeat the Anaheim Arsenal 91-90 in Boise on Wednesday night.
Idaho benefited from a quick start as they jumped out to a 12-2 lead just three minutes into the game. The surge was led by Allred and Luke Jackson, each finished the first quarter with 10 points apiece. Allred finished the game with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jackson led all Stampede scorers with 23 points to go with nine assists and eight rebounds. After leading by as many as 20 points in the first half, the Stampede went into halftime with a 55-39 advantage.
Anaheim guard Cedric Bozeman scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half, helping the Arsenal to chip away at the Stampede lead. Anaheim went on a 13-2 run starting with 5:32 remaining in the fourth and capped by a Cameron Bennerman jumper which knotted the game at 87-87 with 1:44 left.
Idaho managed to get consecutive baskets by Jason Ellis and Lance Allred to go up 91-87. Arsenal guard Kedrick Brown answered by hitting a three-pointer with 8.1 seconds left. Down 90-91, the Anaheim fouled Mohammed Abukar, who missed both of his free throws. Anaheim center Marcus Campbell was unable to make a shot at the buzzer and Idaho held on for the win.
"We were definitely better in the third and fourth quarter," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "Jason Ellis came up big for us with some strong defensive plays to help us win the game."
The Stampede will remain at home to take on Los Angeles on Friday night and Rio Grande Valley on Saturday night. Anaheim travels to Reno for a Sunday afternoon game.
