Stampede Come up Short Again in Fargo

December 2, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Fargo, ND-It was déjà vu for the Sioux Falls Stampede in Fargo Friday night. The Herd found themselves down 2-1 in the final 90 seconds and watched Fargo score an empty netter in the final seconds to come up on the wrong end of a 3-1 final at Scheels Arena. The Herd lost the same and by the same score last Wednesday in Fargo. Josh Passolt tallied the only goal of the game for the Herd in the second period while Jeremy Swayman stopped 25 of 27 shots in goal for the Herd who saw their two game winning streak come to an end and fell to 7-11-1 on the season.

The Stampede had some great scoring opportunities early in the game, but it would be Fargo tallying the only goal of the period. Hank Crone scored 5:08 into the game when he threw a shot on net from the right point that deflected off the left glove of Stampede goaltender Jeremy Swayman and into the back of the net for the only goal of the period as Fargo led 1-0. Fargo outshot the Herd, who went 0-for-2 on the power play, 8-5.

The Stampede looked good early in the second period as they came out flying and putting pressure in the Fargo zone, but once again it would be the Force that would convert. Blake Lizotte scored just 3:55 into the period when he batted a shot from Crone right in front of the Stampede net and tapped it just past Swayman to make it a 2-0 game. Sioux Falls would finally get on the board at 8:23 when Josh Passolt would tally his fifth of the season. Max Johnson made the play happen, dancing around the Fargo defense into the left circle before sending a perfect pass into the slot to Passolt who backhanded a shot under the crossbar and into the net to make it a 2-1 game. Fargo outshot the Herd 9-8 in the period and held the one goal lead and 1:21 of power play time heading into the third period.

The Stampede were able to kill off the penalty and tried to get the tying goal, but the Force defense simply wouldn't let much happen for the Herd who mustered just seven shots in the final period. The Stampede gained an offensive zone face-off with just 90 seconds remaining in the game and pulled Swayman for an extra attacker, but could never set up much offensively and Fargo ended the game for good with an empty net goal with just four seconds remaining in the game.

Fargo outshot the Herd 28-20 and finished 0-for-3 on the power play while the Stampede finished the night 0-for-2.

The Stampede will get another crack at the Force Saturday night when they host Fargo at the PREMIER Center at 7:05 PM. It is also Stomp and Tip Toe's Birthday Bash, presented by Dental Solutions. The First 2,000 fans will receive a free birthday hat plus fans of all ages can get their photos taken with Stomp and Tip Toe at the Dental Solutions photo booth before the game and during the first intermission. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet. Doors open at 6 PM.
