St. Louis City SC News Release
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis CITY SC has acquired Norwegian-American right back Tomas Totland from Swedish First Division club BK Häcken for an undisclosed transfer fee. Totland has signed a three-year deal with a club option in 2027.
"We are excited to bring Tomas to St. Louis after a lot of interest from European and MLS teams," said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. "He comes to our team with experience at a high level, including playing in both Champions League and Europa League matches this season. Along with his experience, he is well-rounded in both the attacking and defending phases."
Totland, a dual national of both Norway and the U.S., has spent the last two seasons with BK Häcken. The 24-year-old right back most recently played in both Europa League, Europa League qualifiers and Champions League qualifiers, amassing 10 appearances with one assist. He helped Häcken win their first-ever Allsvenskan title, Swedish First Division, and third Svenska Cup, Swedish knockout cup. Over the last two years, Totland has played 60 matches across all competitions with one goal and seven assists for Häcken.
For the Norwegian Youth National team, Totland earned caps at the Under-18, U-20 and U-21 squads. He tallied seven total appearances including an appearance during the U-20 World Cup in 2019.
Prior to Häcken, Totland accumulated his first five professional seasons at Norway with three different clubs, quickly making his way up the ladder. He began his career at Fana Idrettslag, a Norwegian Third Division team, in 2016 where he spent a season-and-a-half with 10 matches played and one goal before transferring to Sogndal Idrettslag, a Norwegian Second Division squad. While at Sogndal, Totland accrued 81 matches played, seven goals and nine assists. He then spent one season at Tromsø Idrettslag, a Norwegian First Division club, in 2021, tallying five goals and three assists in 28 matches played across all competitions.
