St Joe gets third win in four games as pitching dominates

St. Joseph, MO-After Tuesday's 15-inning pitcher's duel, St. Joe (8-17) and Sioux Falls (7-17) dueled again, but St. Joe took the win in nine, 3-1. Evan Thomas (2-3) was outstanding and used a three-run fourth inning for the win.

The offense was limited to just four hits, but used three of them in a three run fourth inning. Ben Thomas was hit by a pitch to start the frame and scored on Jake Whitesides' double for a 1-0 lead. Wil Quintana followed with a triple to right-center field scoring Whitesides for a 2-0 lead. After a pair of strikeouts, Jefferson Infante came through with a two-out single to score Quintana to make it 3-0.

That would be all Thomas would need going seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits for his second win. J.C. Huguet worked a perfect eighth and Jamie Tricoglou allowed a run on a hit, but struck out the side in the ninth for his first save.

Former Missouri Western pitcher Sean Donlin (0-2) pitched a complete game in a return to Phil Welch. In eight innings, the left-hander allowed just four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.

The 'Snakes have now won three of four and can sweep Sioux Falls with a win in the series finale tomorrow. It is Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark and the gates open at 6pm for the 7:05 first pitch.
