RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels used a pair of five-run innings to blowout the Binghamton Mets, 12-4, in the regular season finale at The Diamond on Monday afternoon. The Squirrels jumped on Tim Peterson with five runs in the first and never looked back en route to securing a four-game series sweep. The B-Mets stumble into the Eastern Division Championship series against the Portland Sea Dogs on a six-game losing streak, their longest of the season.

Spot-starter Peterson failed to escape the first inning in his Double-A debut. After a leadoff double by Skyler Stromsmoe, Elliott Blair lined an RBI double to right-center, putting Richmond on the board. Following a hit batter and a walk, Angel Villalona brought another home with a single to right.

The disastrous inning continued as the B-Mets defense failed to bail Peterson out. With one out and the bases still loaded, Jayce Boyd fielded a groundball by Tyler LaTorre, but his throw to the plate pulled Xorge Carrillo off the plate. Myles Schroder capped the five-run inning by zipping a two-run single to right-center.

Adam Kolarek took over and notched the final two outs of the frame before working a perfect second. His good fortune ended in the third when the first three batters reached. Clayton Blackburn cleared the bases by splitting the outfielders with a three-run double to the left-field alley. Stromsmoe ended Kolarek's day with an RBI double and Blair greeted Randy Fontanez with another run-producing two-bagger. Villalona added to the lead with a solo homer in the fourth.

Blackburn kept the B-Mets in check through five scoreless innings, facing one over the minimum. Binghamton broke through in the sixth, loading the bases to start the inning. TJ Rivera pushed Binghamton's first run across with a run-producing double play and Jayce Boyd lined an RBI single to left.

Four Binghamton relievers combined for the final four innings, allowing one run on three hits. Hansel Robles struck out three in a blank fifth, Chase Huchingson worked a scoreless sixth, Paul Sewald was tagged for a run in the seventh and Cody Satterwhite bounced back with a 1-2-3 eighth.

Binghamton hung two runs on the Squirrels bullpen. Rivera collected an RBI double in the eighth and Johnson threaded a run-producing single in to left in the ninth before Daniel Slania finally shut the door.

Blackburn (5-6) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six over six innings in the win. Peterson (0-1) registered one out while allowing five runs (four earned) runs in the defeat.

The B-Mets (83-59) complete the regular season with their second-highest win total in franchise history. Binghamton opens the best-of-five Eastern Division Championship Series on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM at home against the Portland Sea Dogs.
