New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - In the final game of the season, the Fisher Cats were outlasted by the New Britain Rock Cats, 4-3, in a 13-inning marathon in New Britain, Conn. A Jorge Polanco double to right field drove home the game-winning run to give the Rock Cats the series victory, three games to one. Sean Ochinko and Kevin Nolan each had two hits as the Fisher Cats finished the season with a 66-76 record.
The Rock Cats (73-69) opened the scoring against Lawrence with solo runs in the first and second inning. Corey Wimberly scored the first when he doubled, stole third, and then scored on Jorge Polanco's first-inning single. A two-out single by Matt Koch in the second pushed across another run for a 2-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats tied it in the fourth against reliever Edgar Ibarra. Brad Glenn singled with two outs before Ochinko blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall to even the game at 2-2. The homer was Ochinko's second with New Hampshire and his third overall this season.
It stayed tied at 2-2 through seven innings, although both teams made bids to take the lead. K.C. Hobson doubled to lead off the fifth, but he was stranded at third. In the seventh, New Britain had a man at third when Kevin Nolan made a sliding stop on a grounder up the middle, and then threw out the hitter Steven Wickens for the final out of the frame.
In the top of the eighth, Nolan was back at it for the good guys. With two outs and runners at first and second, he singled home Jon Berti to give New Hampshire a 3-2 lead.
Casey Lawrence (ND) left after seven in line for the victory. He was denied a win when Richard Bleier allowed a two-out single to Jorge Polanco to tie the game back up, 3-3. Lawrence gave up just two runs on five hits, striking out two without giving up a walk. He finished the season with a 9-9 record and 3.69 ERA. He tied his personal best with 151.1 innings on the season.
The game stayed tied into extra innings when it looked like New Britain would win it in the tenth. They loaded the bases with nobody out against Blake McFarland, but the righty got out of the jam to retire the side and send it to the 11th.
It stayed tied until the 13th when the Fisher Cats began the inning by putting runners at the corners with nobody out. They were unable to score, and they paid for it as Polanco, who tied the game in the eighth, drilled a double to right-center to scored Eddie Rosario and give the Rock Cats the game.
The Fisher Cats finished the season with a 66-76 record, losing nine of their last 11 games. They will begin the 2015 season on April 9, 2015 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium against the same Rock Cats club.
