
Spurs Drop Season Opener at Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas - The Austin Spurs fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers by a final score of 127-117 on Friday night in the team's first game of the 2021-22 season.
San Antonio Spurs assignee Josh Primo recorded 14 points and 6 assists in his G League debut. Two-way player Joe Wieskamp tallied 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and two-way player Devontae Cacok finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Jaylen Morris put up a team-high 17 points for Austin, and Damyean Dotson posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Eight Spurs players scored in double figures: Morris (17), Holman (16), Dotson (15), Wieskamp (15), Cacok (14), Primo (14), Mahoney (13) and Mathis (11).
Rio Grande Valley was led by Garrison Mathews, who had a game-high 28 points.
The 2021-22 Austin Spurs season is presented by SWBC.

The Austin Spurs will take on Capitanes de la Ciudad de México in the team's home opener on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. CT at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
