September 27, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Soo Greyhounds News Release
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is extremely pleased to announce that defenceman RYAN SPROUL has decided to join the Greyhounds after considering various NCAA options.
"We're thrilled to have Ryan join our program as he has enormous potential and had many options available to him. Since the end of last hockey season his development has sky rocketed and he has continued to grow and get stronger. Since participating in some summer prospect tournaments he has been highly recruited by numerous major Division 1 NCAA programs and we have spent a lot of time discussing the benefits of the Soo Greyhounds and the OHL with him and his family" started GM Dave Torrie.
Originally selected in the 6th round of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, Sproul started the 2010-11 season with the Vaughan Vipers Junior A Hockey Club where he had 1 goal and 2 assists, good for 3 points in 3 games played.
The Mississauga, ON native who stands 6.04 while weighing in at 185 lbs arrived in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday."After looking at options within the NCAA and USHL I realized that my heart was really with the Greyhounds. I like the team, coaches and also the atmosphere in the Soo. From the beginning this has been my goal to make the OHL and I am very proud and looking forward to being a part of such a great organization and I think we are going to have an excellent year together"
This past May Ryan was selected in the 4th Round of USHL (Tier 1 league) draft by the Tri-City Storm.
"We are excited to have Ryan choose our program with the confidence that he can pursue his dreams of becoming a professional hockey player while obtaining his education. Ryan will fit right in with our team as he has terrific size and skating ability. In my opinion Ryan has all the tools to be an NHL draft pick and with some coaching and development he will give himself an opportunity to pursue his NHL dreams" concluded Torrie.
With the latest addition the Greyhounds roster now sits at 24 active players as they head into their first road trip of the season. Next action for the Hounds is Thursday evening against the defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires. Game time is 7:05 p.m. from the WFCU Centre and you can hear all the action starting at 6:35 p.m. live on Rock 101.
