Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

Burlington, VT- Greg Bunn and two relievers took care of the Cyclones offense, while Ofilio Castro took care of the Expos offense as Vermont got its first shutout victory of the season with a 6-0 win over Brooklyn in New York-Penn League action Wednesday night at Centennial Field.

The Cyclones had scored 10 runs on 16 hits in a 10-3 victory over Vermont on Tuesday, but Wednesday was a different story as Bunn, Eddie Diaz and Hecto Cerezo combined on a six-hitter Brooklyn with 1 walk and seven strikeouts. Bunn (2-0) allowed three hits with four strikeouts over the first five innings, while Diaz three hits in his three innings of work. Cerezo struckout two of the three battters he faced in the ninth.

Castro was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, including a two-run homer in the third inning to give the Expos a 2-0 lead. Castro, who is now 6-for-8 in his last two games after a 6-for-41 slump, scored a run in the fourth on a Steve Mortimer RBI single for a 4-0 Vermont advantage.

The Expos final two runs came in the sixth inning on an RBI triple from Ja'Mar Clanton and an RBI single by Castro for his third hit of the game. The triple for Clantion was just the fifth three-bagger of the season for the Expos and just the third in the last 31 games.

Brandon Conway was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Vermont (16-17), which snapped a modest two-game losing streak and won for the sixth time in 15 home games this season.

Tyler Davidson was 2-for-4 for the Cyclones (20-12), while Joe Williams (3-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits over four innings to take the loss.

The Expos and Cyclones, who have split the first two games, will play the final game of the three-game series on Thursday night with Jim Henderson on the mound for Vermont.
