Sporting KC II Visits Atlanta United 2 on Wednesday

Hot off a resounding 4-1 home win over FC Tulsa, Sporting Kansas City II (1-3-3, 6 points) will play for their second straight victory on Wednesday when they visit Central Division counterparts Atlanta United 2 (3-2-2, 11 points) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. The USL Championship showdown will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and stream live on ESPN Plus.

Under the guidance of fourth-year head coach and former Sporting Kansas City midfielder Paulo Nagamura, Sporting KC II bounced emphatically into the win column last Wednesday by defeating FC Tulsa on home turf. MLS loanees and Sporting KC Academy products Cam Duke, Grayson Barber and Kaveh Rad all opened their professional scoring accounts, as did rookie Rojay Smith, whose long-range blast in the 73rd minute was one of SportsCenter's top 10 plays of the night.

Atlanta United 2 is led by head coach and former English Premier League veteran Jack Collison. The longtime Wales international midfielder took the helm at the start of this season after previously coaching the Atlanta United U-17s from 2019-2020. Rookie winger Aiden McFadden has led the way with five goals, including two each in a 5-0 thumping of Tulsa on May 19 and a 2-2 tie against Memphis 901 FC four days later. Tyler Wolff, the son of Sporting Legend and Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff, has added two goals of his own.

Sporting KC II and Atlanta United 2 are set to meet four times over the course of 2021, with SKC II returning to Fifth Third Bank Stadium on July 10 and Atlanta visiting Kansas City on Aug. 14 and Oct. 13. The clubs have met twice previously, playing to a 1-1 draw at Children's Mercy Park in May 2019 and Atlanta claiming a 2-1 home win in August 2019.
