Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs won their second in a row with a 4-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. The win gives the Chiefs a .500 record at 7-7-3-0 heading into Saturday's date with the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick.
Four different players scored goals for Spokane as the Chiefs got off to a quick start with two goals in the first three minutes of the game.
Drayson Bowman was set up in the slot from behind the net by Ondrej Roman for his second goal in as many games just 1:37 and Spokane scored the first of two power play goals. Derek Ryan also had an assist.
Spokane was put on another power play nine seconds later and David Rutherford made it 2-0 3:01 into the game. A Judd Blackwater shot from the left side banked off the back boards onto the waiting stick of Rutherford. The 19-year-old scored a goal for the fourth game in a row and for the fifth time in six games. Since his acquistion, Rutherford has six goals and nine points.
The Rockets scored their lone goal of the game at 18:05 of the first by Troy Ofukany. Former Chief David Schulz set him up.
Two late goals in the second rounded out the scoring as both Adam Hobson and Chris Bruton scored on wrist shots a little over a minute a part. Hobson's came at 18:24 and Bruton's at 19:25.
Neither team scored in the third. The Chiefs outshot Kelowna 34-24 for the game, finished 2-4 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs will take on the Americans for the third time this year, the second in the Tri-City Coliseum. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 12 beginning at 7:00.
Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on KJRB 790 the Fan.
