Spokane Can't Complete Sweep of Tri-City
July 29, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - After combining for five home runs in the first two games against Tri-City the Indians' bats ran cold in the series finale. Spokane managed just one hit against the Dust Devils while striking out nine times as they fell to Tri-City 3-0 in front of 4,203 fans at Avista Stadium for Indians Baseball Card Giveaway presented by US Linen & Uniform, 103.1 KCDA, and The Splash.
Spokane starter Sal Mendez (2-3) was superb in the loss as he allowed just one earned run over six frames with four strikeouts. The southpaw has been especially stingy at Avista Stadium lately, permitting just three runs in his last two starts totaling eleven innings. Mendez was backed up by another strong relief effort from the indefatigable Tyler Ferguson who lowered his ERA to 1.84 with three scoreless innings.
Despite the best efforts of the pitching staff, it just wasn't Spokane's night as the team's lone hit came in the first inning from second baseman Blaine Prescott. Prescott - who celebrated his 21st birthday today - has now picked up at least one base hit in nine of his last 10 games and continues to rank among the NWL leaders in doubles, home runs, and hits.
The Indians won the series against Tri-City two games to one and are now 2-1 in the second half and 21-20 overall.
