Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires started with a lot of momentum after falling behind in the series. The opening frame saw just one goal and the Spitfires followed that up with 3 goals in both the second and third period for a big win.

In the first period, the lone goal was a shorthanded tally by Captain Will Cuylle who went in on a breakaway and shot it past Cavallin. Johnston had the lone assist. The Spitfires led in shots 16-7 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, the scoring broke open and both teams found more space. Onuska stood tall allowing one goal on 22 Flint shots in the period. Maggio scored twice with one coming on the powerplay on a rebound and another on a 2 on 1 where he kept it and sniped it. The Spitfires had a 3-0 lead before Lombardi scored to make it a 3-1 game. Late in the period, Cuylle went around a Flint player in the neutral zone and drove wide down the wing and cut towards the goal and tucked in his 2nd on the night to restore the Spitfires 3 goal lead. The Spitfires led 4-1 after 40 minutes with a 32-29 shot advantage.

In the third period, the Spitfires added three more goals. Maillet deflected in his 2nd of the post season just under 9 minutes into the period. Perrott and Ribau had assists on the goal. Just a few minutes later, Peer sniped his 2nd of the post-season. Late in the period Maggio would complete the natural hat-trick on a floater from the point. With just over a minute and a half to play Flint scored to make it a 7-2 game.

The Spitfires tie the series 1-1.

The next game goes on Wednesday in Flint. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
